in the monkey forest

Walking back through the Sacred Monkey Forest to Nyuhkuning from a shopping trip in Ubud, I spot a macaque sitting by the path cradling her baby. How adorable! Then another monkey tries to grab Roen's bag and when she holds it up high, it climbs up her back. A Balinese woman sitting on the steps of the temple chases it off with a stick. Robin says the monkeys never go after natives, only tourists. Smart monkeys! Of course, it doesn't help that tourists buy bananas and peanuts to feed the monkeys, and then wonder why they're so aggressive. Not a good idea to feed them by hand because sometimes they do bite.
