One dramatic sunset after another, every evening since the beginning of 2012. This one features a solar pillar shooting straight up from the setting sun. The next moment the whole sky turns golden, reflected in a lake between dark hills in the distance. But the lake is just an illusion formed by the sun setting behind a cloud bank which is hovering just above the horizon. A dark altocumulus cloud looks like a purple wing fanning the conflagration in the west.
